About Me

My photo
Hiya! My name is Morgan, someone who is starting to pursue my passion of graphic design. I'm a full time college student, but I've always loved artwork, and I want to be able to do it as much as I can. I'm most experienced in pixel art styles, but wish to grow into other genres as well. I'm currently focusing on my artistic interests, and hope to grow in the field in the future. I look forward to working with you!

Connected but Alone

I personally believe turkle's argument is rather biased, and focuses on cherry-picked information. Although I may be biased as well, as a frequent technology user, my argument is simply another side of the picture; one not considered in this video. Through time, societies change. Those who feel nostalgic of the past may not be able to embrace it's full potential, and as a result usually only focus on negative aspects, or misinterpret change in general as negative. Of course you can just "tlk lik dis 2 tlk online", but that's not the only way you can communicate. Texting isn't a replacement to physical communication, it's an extension, and texting does not mean you can't have a physical life or completely ignore people close to you. It means you can not only see them when they're away from you, but also form friendships with people you could never hope to meet face to face. People from all over the world are now able to have conversations together, and it's no different than conversations face to face. You can still connect online, it's all about how you use it.

Having an online presence does not mean you're never alone either. As someone who loves technology, I also love my alone time. Balancing this is not at all difficult either. Besides, the same was said for books long ago as they became more accessible, young people spending too much time reading. Is this really so different?

Rather than look to the past, look to the future. Life changes, and change isn't always bad, especially when you go into it with an open mind and positive attitude. Pretending that robots will replace human interaction, or that texting equates to a lack of conversations and true friendships is a short-sighted idea.
